Sometimes it’s even scary to see what we created by not knowing what we created…we never expected this.
It now has about 42 million! And it is steadily increasing, one million clicks each week and that is incredible and crazy. HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL TO BE BEHIND SOMETHING THIS BIG? The song is simply the expression about a feeling – the feeling when you’re missing somebody, missing a person you love, a person you want to spend time with but you can’t. THE SONG THAT TOOK OFF FOR YOU WAS “STOLEN DANCE”, WHICH WAS BIG IN EUROPE AND IS NOW MAKING ITS WAY TO THE UK. It was a spontaneous idea to upload some songs on YouTube in order to show it our friends but then something else bigger came from that. We just always loved music and we always liked to discover and experiment. I played the bass and Philipp the guitar, then we tried to create beats, I tried to sing (which I didn’t like at first) and then I found my way but we never had any expectations about becoming successful. Yes, we both began to make music at the age of 12 and we both began with the guitar. YOU’VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH MUSIC SINCE YOU WERE YOUNG. I think we only liked the sound and the word “milky”…everything sounds nice with milky! We did some brainstorming, wrote it down and then one day we decided to take this name.
We had some ideas about what we could call our potential bands. The name doesn’t have a special meaning or background. That’s what I needed as singer/songwriter to complete my ideas and to make the sound round – and now we are here!ĪND THE NAME MILKY CHANCE, WHERE DID IT COME FROM? When we finished school I (Clemens) began to work on my own stuff but decided that I needed Philipp as an expert for making beats. We did a lot of experiments and had many experiences over the years both with music and the band. After a very short time we founded our first band, together with some other friends. We were on the same wavelength from the first day on, so we went home and decided to jam with each other. There we also began to talk about music, to got to know each other. We met each other in the eleventh grade in high school in the music class, where we both took music as an advanced course. LET’S START AT THE BEGINNING, HOW DID YOU GUYS COME TOGETHER? In a rare moment of down time we meet the pair to find out what else they’ve got up their sleeves. It seems to be working though, Clemens and Philipp have just finished a sold out 100 date tour of Europe.
The pair, who have notched up over 40million plays on YouTube for their breakout hit “Stolen Dance” have been friends since their school days, and now record in their self-built studio in their native Germany and use only their social media accounts to propel them further into our consciousness. Hey’re already huge stars across Europe – thanks to topping the German, Austrian, French and Belgian album charts with their debut album, Sadnecessary, and today Milky Chance unleash the album on the UK too.
